Progressing with rebuilding my A10 Golden Flash and as usual its the little things that cause problems. The answer is probably obvious but I just cannot see it!! The crankcase breather pipe on the A10 is a short pipe pushed into a hole, with an interference fit, in the top left hand side of the crankcase. Looking through the Parts Book, it is held in position by a P-clip and a short 2BA bolt and nut (I have all of these). My problem is that I cannot work out what the P-clip is actually bolted to as the clip position is in mid-air and would provide no support to the breather pipe. I would appreciate any advice from anybody who knows where this bolts to.
Thanks in anticipation

Pete, may I ask what the year of your bike is? The 54-57 parts book from Draganfly shows the pipe (Plate 2, items 94-97), but not where it is fitted.  However, it is shown in the larger parts book (see attached), said to be for the '50-'62 models, and bolts through a hole in the primary chaincase. My 1954 GF does not have one - maybe it should have and I have missed it, but I do not even have the hole for the screw.  That said, it may help you. The breather pipe is given as 67-922 but for some reason is not shown.

Most bikes dont have a clip fitted. Had 4 A twins none with a clip.

Easiest to fit a pipe in the breather outlet and attach a length of tube from it leading to under the machine.

Thanks for the replies.
Going off the engine number it is a 1955 Golden Flash. I have the 54/57 parts book and I can now see that the inner primary chaincase has a ledge sticking out which must be where the P-clip bolts on. However my chaincase doesn't have the ledge - it is part no 42-7503 which I think means it is off a post 1959 engine. Looking at the parts book for 59/63 the chaincase seems to have lost the ledge - even though the P-clip and bolt are still detailed!! As I got the bike in lots of boxes and many of the parts had been collected by the previous owner (and some had been seriously bodged - 8mm bolt screwed into 5/16 CEI tapping) so it doesn't surprise me that there is a bit of a mixed bag.
Do you think if I Loctite the breather tube into the hole it will stay secure?
I thought of routing a pipe to the back of the bike like you say Julian, although looking how it all lines up a the moment the I thought of directing the breather so that it can act as a chain oiler on to the front sprocket. Anybody tried that?

Hi Pete

I had the same problem, as my engine was just rebuilt I kept getting oil all over the ground and thinking it was primary oil I was taken the clutch casing off thinking the problem was there, but only as a good member on here told me there was a breather at the back of the crank case and it was coming from there,( I was New to BSA ) it was all down to the breather in the timing side had so much play...any way to cut a long story short I fitted a pipe from a grease gun extension and ground the end to a tapper and tapped that in the hole and at the same time using Cold weld then I ran a pipe out to the back mudguard so it just vented to Atmosphere and I have had no more problems at all from there......Hope this helps you out,

Cheers Maurice
