Hi All
Need a bit of advice Please, I have removed the rear wheel to replace the shoes I have found that the previous owner has ground down the shoes to fit the cam the bike is a 1961 A10 the brake plate has the part number 42-6315 and the shoes that were in it have the part number LD164788 the same as the new set I have, but the cam is 15 mm wide and the shoes are 19 mm. My thoughts are? is the cam wrong for this plate or the brake plate is wrong of the bike I can't seem to find much info on the brake plate under that part number or what cam should be.  Any help or thoughts would be great

Many Thanks

JulianS

The correct brake plate for 1961 has cast number 42 6357, brake lever pointing downwards and steel cable stop. I suspect your brake plate with casting number 41 6315 has lever pointing up and cast in cable stop. This is for 1958/59 models. If that is the case you will have quite an awkward cable run.

That said both use the same cam which is about 15 mm wide.

Your cam looks correct but those shoes, which are pattern parts,  are not the correct part and a previous owner has bodged it. The correct shoes dont need filing to fit.

Great thanks that points me in the right direction. You wouldn't happen to know the part number for the right shoes would you that would be handy. Will get on the internet stay safe thanks again for the help

2 x 42 5876 for non floating shoes.

68 5515 (leading) and 68 5516 (trailing) for floating shoes.

Photo 1960 on rear brake with floating shoes.

Any of the well known dealers should be able to supply.
