Im considering fitting a Wassells BSA B25 B44 B50 250 441 500 SINGLES Mk1 ignition kit , mainly because I can get at trade price.
Looking to fit to the B40 so not a problem, but also considering on fitting one on a twin as well.

my query being, looking at the fitting instructions they show an option for Neg earth but with 2 6v coils or Neg earth 12v dual output single coil , but it says using magneto body.
its a chop 12v neg earth with a single twin output coil , as there is no magneto can I use the diagram for the latter system as its running side points, same as the B40

I've recently fitted one of these to my A10 and from memory the only real difference in wiring diagrams was relating to the polarity (i.e. pos or neg earth). You should be ok using the diagram you've mentioned as it will be the same set up polarity wise.

thanks timc, with the virus problem at the moment will put on hold and see what they say, the other option is the Pazon system, will be a similar question

A10 JWO

I have had my Pazon since 2011 with no issues on my 1963 5TA. It runs a Kirby Rowbotham distributor conversion. First kick  8)

hi for my sins i dont come on here much so i hope someone sees this, i have an a10 chopper i converted it all to 12 volts but left the dynamo on 6volts as it kicks out plenty of charge(it has a belt conversion on it the problem i have is that i brought a wassell ignition system including the stator housing to replace my mag. it is all wired up to wiring drawing but it will not work on anti-clockwise markings but if you time it to the clockwise setting it fires up first kick. the stuff i have read makes me nervous about this as it implies that i will be setting it on 58 degrees of retarded as oppose to 34 degree's this i believe is a to greater curve any help with this would be great.  All the best mark ps are there any bsa guys around Leamington as there isn't a club around here it would be nice to meet with someone local cheers hope someone gets this ha ha.

Hi Mark, clockwise would be correct for your A10, the timing pinion will be spinning the opposite way to the crank, so with the crank (when viewed from the primary side and the same side where you making your timing adjustment) is turning anti-clockwise, so the ignition has to spin the opposite way so you time it to the clockwise setting. You'll still be about 34° before TDC. Who ever has come up and said 58° doesn't know shit (sorry for swearing). You need to turn the engine over and look at the dot on the magnet through the window and note it's direction of travel. You'll see that it passed the windows and moves towards the pickup. The direction which it is travelling (so clockwise) would indicate which window you need to look at (the one labeld CW) to confirm that that's what your seeing.

The dynamo will end up letting you down though, whilst it is capable of putting out over 12v on 6v windings, this is without any load being carried, when a load is applied (battery charging, lights, ignition)your dynamo will work overtime trying to power a 12v system and eventually burn out. As your not running a mag, this will leave you stranded.

That's a great reply thanks it is what I had worked out it seemed daft to time it on anti clockwise when it's rotation was clockwise. It starts first kick and seems crisp enough when I rev it . I agree with you about the Dynamo too but that's what the guys at srm reckons they say it's better than changing to a 12 volt armature as the Copper windings are so thin on them and burn through , I may go back to the good old mag . It's less hassle ,once again thanks for the reassurance cheers mark

Regarding the dynamo your best bets are to contact either tony cooper or Andrew Guttmann (priory magnetos) I know Andrew and he's a fair and honest chap and a lot more knowledgeable on the subject of dynamos and magnetos than I.

The other option is to the an Alton alternator, the earlier ones were twin phase and got a bad press, they switched to single phase and they have been quite reliable from the ones I've seen.

Another option is to swap out the wassel 12v system for a 6v version (I don't know if VAPE - who make them for wassel) do a 6v version. But Pazon and I think Boyer do.

hi mark, i ve been using a 12volt dynamo armature and stator without faults for a couple of years now. dynamo must be earthed properly but otherwise fit and forget. like many others i tried elect ign on an a10 but the maggie is more in character. mr wolfs k2f armature and remagnatism sorted out my magneto.
