Hi,
Is this the plate you are referring to?

If so its should be there from 1966, which includes your year, or a screwed plug from 1969 on.

Best wishes...

spike123

Sorry should have been tdc not tic

spike123

Yep that's the plate but nothing at all so wondering what l/h crankcase did he use ?

Nanonevol

Aren't they on the right hand crankcase?
(edit) Oh, right, name of the thread.

Spike,
Ah! could he have meant the circular cover on the Primary chaincase? That's where the mark on the Rotor lines up with a marker peg on the inside showing fully advanced for Dynamic timing with a strobe.
Alternatively, the plate or plug on the RH Crankcase if for a timing peg to be inserted and this slots into a groove on the crankshaft flywheel locking it into the same position for static timing (although you have to swing the cam to fully advance and lock it against the spring force).
The Dynamic with strobe is by far the easiest way.

spike123

yes i can strobe it but just wondered why theirs no plate on the left
anyway still stripping down and noticed the butcher of Baghdad has been here crank case thread lug broken off and drain sump filter stud stripped , and it has a 4 spring clutch so no idea what year thats off
well keep going i suppose

Try 1965 parts book for 4 spring clutch.  Found one on my '66.  Good clutch, work with it.
