I'm about to buy a new 19" front tyre to go with the new Dunlop Roadmaster TT100 4.10 x 19" that the project came with.

I realise that it is a fairly subjective issue, but was wondering what the general consensus might be on sticking with dunlop- or going with a different manufacturer.

Obviously I'll stick the same make of tyre front and back but figured that now is the time to make any changes..... (especially as the rear tyre is going to have to be taken off and reversed- if I've read the markings right (arrow on bottom right side of tyre is pointing forward (anti-clockwise))
Many thanks,
Dave.

I cant remember if your Lightning is a pre OIF or Oil in frame. If the latter, then a TT100 will foul the front mudguard wire stays.
Re the choice, it's personal preference but everyone raves about the Avon Roadriders and I can definitely vouch for those.
I have a TT100 on the rear on my Royal Star and I fitted a Mitas on the front - only 'cos I'm a cheapskate. It handles fine with this combination.

DAVE BRADY

Hi Dave,

Both my '68 A65 and my wife's '51 Golden Flash have been shod with Avon tyres for over 100,000 miles.  Latterly with the Road Rider.  My understanding is that they are made with pretty much the same compound as all Avon tyres so are good for grip and durability.  Last time I looked they come in different profiles.  We have 90/90 x 19 front and 100/90 rear.  I think that 3.25 and 4.00 sections are also available. I would imagine that Continental and Metzler are just as good but have always stuck with Avon.
What ever you decide make sure it is made with a modern compound.

Dave.

Thanks for that helpful info- I reckon I'll go with the Avons and sell the Dunlop off.

Oh, and it's the pre OIF bike....

Again, many thanks,
Dave.
