Hi all
Just wanted a bit of information on forks / brakes for above.
It has what I believe to be a 69/70 Triumph TLS setup. The cable comes from the top of the plate.
My question is are the forks A10 or would they have been modded to fit?
Thanks

Bess

Thanks
Looking at that thread it talks about building up forks etc but it doesn't look like any of that's been done
Would the bottom sliders have been changed to the triumph type? They certainly look like A10 from the photos on the net.
Thanks

A bit more research tells me it looks like a Triumph T120 front wheel with the 69/70 brake plate.
Is this a straight swap for the original single setup or do the forks have to be changed to match the wheel.
I can't seem to post photos.
Thanks

Bess

Hi,
A photo will help, you probably need to resize the image using edit in Paint or office picture manager in windows.

Best wishes...

Hopefully these will give enough information

You have a mix of parts.

Forks are BSA not Triumph.

Brake is BSA Triumph type 1969/70

The TLS was originally fitted with clamp up fork bottoms for the spindle rather than screw in.

Someone has adapted the right leg by adding a lug to engage with the brake plate.

The forks could be A65 damper rod type - rod attached to top nut and captive in the damper body which is attached to fork bottom.

Otherwise could be A10/Gold Star type.

Thanks for the reply
Is there any other way I could identify the exact type?
Some of the A10 fork sliders I have seen show the lug fitted.

There is a bit of a clicking but I don't think it's the head bearings so was going to strip and examine the forks over the winter but I don't want to get them off and be in a mess.

Looking again you do have the clamp up forks, my mistake. Sorry.

I think the bottoms are A10 type, the A65 are more substanial around the spindle.

Take one of the top nuts off, should be a plain nut for A10 type (or with a damper rod which comes completely away with it if Eddie Dow dampers fitted) The A65 it will have a damper rod which you will need to unscrew from the nut to completely remove it.

A10 type first photo.

A65 second photo.

Third photo A65 top A10 bottom note the difference in the lug for the brake plate.

No need to apologise, I appreciate you taking the time to reply.
I have taken one of the tops off and they are nuts, no damper etc attached in there.
Looking at the photos (which are a massive help) I can see that the A65 has the drain hole in the middle whereas the A10 has the drain hole offset. Mine has the drain hole in the middle so I am right in assuming that makes them A65?
The distance between the flat mating surface of the spindle clamp and the point where the screw starts for the seal holder on the top of the leg is around 260mm.
The distance between the mating surface of the spindle clamp and the top of the lug that holds the brake plate is approx. 90mm

My photos aren't great as I have had to shrink the size to be able to post them.

So when I finally understand what I have the question is should I leave it as it is set up or should I do something else?
Thanks

Looking at your original photos, they look very much like A65 to me. If there are two dimples in the chromed fork oil seal holders (not visible in the pic) then they are definitely A65.
My guess is they were fitted along with the TLS front brake as the hub looks identical to my A50. it makes sense to fit the forks, wheel and brake as one to save buggering about making the TLS fit the A10 hub.

Hi
I can't see any dimples in the seal holders, could you help me with a photo or some more information on what to look for please
Also
There are no internal damper rods in the forks either so I'm a bit puzzled.
Thanks

JulianS

No dimple so not later A65 forks.

The photos show a set of forks from a 1959 A10 Super Rocket. Same forks for 1958 model.

I am sure this is what you have fitted.

Compare the area around the spindle clamp on these with that of the above photo with TLS fitted and you will see it is more substantial on the later. These forks are from a 1968 A65 Lightning. Damper rod attached to top nut on these.

Thanks Julian
Last question (I think) would damper rods have to be fitted if they wee anything other than A10?
It looks like they are the correct forks for the bike with the info I have been given. It's a 1958 super rocket registered in June 1958.

JulianS

Your forks are not A65 damper rod forks the shape around the spindle clamp is not A65.
