Good suggestion  there Allan.

I've also angled the gear lever down a bit and squared the gear lever so that it is at right angles to the shaft- all of which helps...
Thanks mate,
Dave.

Hi Dave,

Just took these pictures..

geraldhattrick75

Hope you didn't get too wet taking them Allan.

Yes your pictures confirm that mine is similar in everything except the shape of your kickstart- which is cranked forward much lower down the shaft and is angled about 20 degrees clockwise on the kickstart pawl shaft.

Bottom line is your kickstart is inclined forward and mine sits vertical.

Different kick start levers and different rotary positions on the kickstart shaft. (See picture 2 in post 397).

Think I'm gonna have to leave mine as it is as I don't see how I can rotate my kickstart shaft position...

Thanks very much for that Allan.

Regards,
Dave

Hi Dave, the first kickstart I modified was like yours, but it fouled my boot when riding and it became quite irritating.

So after looking at Steve Browns rocket3 I modified another one and cranked it in the same Position.

With any crank in the lever it will start the kicking process higher up than if it wasn't bent, but on the back side of that, you will kick the lever through to the stop which you can't quite do when the lever isn't cranked. So you can lower the lever by pulling the clutch in to find your desired starting position, or grind the first half tooth off the quadrant and then grind the first full tooth down so that it acts now as the half tooth. Which I might have done on that bike... it was a long time ago and I can't remember, but it's most likely what I did as I don't pull the clutch in to feed the kickstart to a desired position.

Thanks for that Allan.

Unfortunately, after all that work, I've (well SWMBO as much as anybody) decided that if I sold it now that it is finished (again), we could buy a new bathroom...

Given that I completely re-did the bathroom about 32 years ago (see, some of my stuff lasts) I felt it only right that I accede to her request and sell the bike....

It's on eBay as we speak.....

But thanks for all the help, I can't imagine how I'd have built it without all the help I had off the site, and people like yourself Allan.

Many thanks,
Dave.

P.S.OK, who knows about bathrooms then? ;D
