b31 colour/chrome

Would a 1954 s/arm b31 have had a plain black tank or would it have had chrome sides ?

Usual colour scheme would be maroon with chrome panels.

Not black ?  surprised at that... I thought it should have chrome but also thought maybe there was a `deluxe` version,  thanks
