The tank is off for refurb, and I want to remove both wheels to work on them.  Is it safe to take the wheels off and support the bike using the centrestand and some blocks of wood under the front of the engine?   Many thanks

I found it more stable to leave the front wheel spindle in place and support the front of the bike from that.

Thanks for the tip.  It is surprisingly stable and well balanced, especially on this new 'paddock stand'!.

That's rather more professional than the upturned plastic bucket that I used!

thanks chaps.  I've worked on newer bikes, but the BSA is a whole new world - I feel like I am starting from scratch again.  I've had to get my head around Whitworth spanner sizes, 'gas tap' sizing and until last week I thought a 'Tommy bar' was somewhere British soldiers might go for a drink!
