Hi. My M20 service sheets say that the "M" Series bikes don't have the oil filter in the oil tank because there is a felt filter in the oil return line. Fine. But I cant find any reference to the actual filter in any of my exploded drawing, or other documents.

Advice please.

I use these on my classics . They are the smallest around so easily hidden . when you have spent many thousands on a rebuild a good modern filter makes sense . http://www.morgo.co.uk/morgo-oil-filter-kit/110-morgo-remote-oil-filter-kit.html

There is a felt filter but this is also in the oil tank

I think the gauze filter on the outlet pipe of the tank is then omitted on the M series bikes.

If you use a cartridge type filter it must go on the return side so that there is presure on the oil going through the filter.

Having re-read your replies and then looked again at my oil tank It has the long upright tube in it. This leads me to think that its not actually an M20 tank but may be from an AorB series machine. I shall take it off again tomo and investigate further.

Mike, the lomng tube is the return and it is around this that the felt filter fits. Some on the WM20 forum say they don't bother with this but I have one fitted. The filters are easy to come by but the caps that sit on top of them are less so. I made my own cap.

Hi Dean.

That's bril thanks. I had assumed something like that but as I am in no rush I thought that best to check. The caps are available From D/Fly at about £43. So I guess that I too shall become a manufacturer :)

Their pic is not very plain so one ? please--does the cap have a peripheral lip that fits down over the filter or is it just a flat surface.

Regards

One more ??--Is the outlet from the return pipe into the tank just the holes at the top of the pipe or are there holes nearer the bottom as well

One more question. Is the cap spring just held in place by the oil tank filler cap???
Mike 8) 8)

Dean Southall

The only holes are in the top of the return pipe.
The filter cap is held on by the filler cap.
A number of experinced M20 riders junk the filter, add a magnet (in the oil tank or sump) and just change the oil more frequently.
