You need a NOVA certificate ASAP. Notice Of Vehicle Arrival. It's an HMRC thing to say the bike's in the country and to see if you owe any tax on it (you shouldn't do).
Your bike is MOT exempt but you have to get one for the registration process so they know it at least once in it's life passed an MOT.
If you need to ride it to the MOT you can insure it on the frame number for this purpose ONLY.
You need a dating certificate to say that the bike is the year you say it is, and that it's not radically altered. Tip- if you're thinking of doing any major changes, best to wait until after it's registered.
Then fill out the V11 form and send it away with all your bits.

ive just registered my 56 gold star . I needed bsa owners club dating certificate , Nova form all done online , a v55/5 form applied for online from dvla but sent to me in post . I didnt need an mot I rang them and asked but was told " if it is mot exempt then it is exactly that and you dont need one "  the v11 form is for a previously registered bike and a tax reminder  . Although mine was 56 and already mot exempt . I did get an SGS inspection though but that was all over in 6 days from dvla saying it was required and no big deal at all . Your v5 registration certificate should come back to you as a historic vehicle . mine did .

Actually, the form may well be the V55. My apologies. The MOT thing I was told when I rang the DVLA about registering my Dad's '77 Harley.
