The main stand clangs on the exhaust every time I go over a bump. Having examined it, the main stand when in the up position is hanging at a 45degree angle. Is that normal? Shouldn't it fold right up horizontal? And should there be a rubber bump stop or something?

Have you checked the pivot bolts?
And the holes in the stand eyes.
Often the holes have worn larger and the pivot bolts are worn.
The pivot bolts are the cheapest place to start.

Tigerfeet

I bushed the pivot holes and the bolts are new - so it isn't that.

When it is 'up' it is just hanging on the spring. There is nothing to stop it bouncing up further.

The spring should be strong enough to hold it up firmly and it shouldn't hit the silencer so several things are not quite right.

I seem to remember my new stand spring needed a bit of tweaking to pull it harder into place.
I had to tweak the loop/hook end of the spring

if you lay on the floor and push the stand upwards with your finger, does the feet hit the silencer then ? may be the "stops" built into the hinge stop at the pivot quadrant need a bit of weld on them to stop them further away from the exhaust

Tigerfeet

Yes - if I push it up with my finger the feet hit the silencer. I will investigate the pivot quadrant - I hadn't realised it functioned as the 'up stop'.

I will also tweak the spring.

Thanks
