I've just rebuilt a D14/4 1968, the gearbox is stuck in gear and no neutral, it'll turn a couple of revolutions and then start to tighten up also the kickstart ratchet mechanism teeth on the back of the chainwheel locate fine when checked on reassembly but slip worse than before i stripped it, the crank and piston move freely on their own, the gearbox side of it is probably down to me any ideas? thanks in advance

You say rebuilt.
Have you split the crankcases , thereby disturbing the gears or has it been like this always.

Yes i stripped it completely to renew the crank seals plus all the other seals, all the gears were there previously but the gears were all left in situ. Possibly the increased kickstart ratchet slipping could be to do with tightness on the gears
