Chain guard fixing M33

What is the front lower chain guard bolted to; is it just the mudguard? I only ask because my chain guard doesn't have a front lower section (it's going to get one), and the mudguard, which appears to not be the original type, doesn't have an appropriate looking hole.

All the pattern ones do, but of course that's not always a guarantee of it being right...

I will have a look at mine tomorrow.

There is a bar about 1" x 1/4" that is attached to the rear brake plate ie the anchor. the other end is fixed to the frame via a long stud joining the frame half's together. The lower chain guard is attached to this by three bolts, it is not attached to the mudguard.

I don't have a bar like that, but is your M33 a rigid frame version? Mine is a plunger framed machine (whoops, I should have said).

The plunger framed B33 does not have a lower chain guard. So you are looking for something that does not exist. Sorry.

Oh, I see what you mean now; I meant the lower front part of the chain guard. Sorry! My chain guard appears to be a modified one from a plunger framed A7, that's had the front bit of the proper one grafted on to it. There should be a bit of chain guard that goes between the wheel and the chain, and it has a fixing screw or bolt. My chain guard does not have such a thing. Here's a (not very sharp) screen shot that shows what it should look like.

Just to back up your question, heres pics of my M33 chainguard showing mounting to rear mudguard too. I've run a flexible pipe from the engine breather to 'potentially' lubricate the rear chain.

The mudguard it is, then. My chain guard has only two fixing holes so naturally it's been flexing around; both holes are cracked. My welding mate is due to come round soon so I'll make up a lower section and he can weld it on, and also do something about those cracks. Thanks chaps.
