Hi

I've almost finished my '70 Victor Special rebuild but come across a wiring issue. I've been using a pattern Lucas wiring harness which basically follows the colours and layout of the originals but has a few variations. The main problem is that it has two wires, one brown white and one brown blue identified on the Lucas diagram as going to the ammeter. However the 70 441 Victor Special isn't fitted with an ammeter so what to do with these two wires. I initially thought you just needed to connect them together. Big mistake as when the battery was connected it blew the main fuse immediately. Separating this join means the fuse doesn't blow but nothing works.
So my question is what do I do with these two wires. Bike has standard switch gear etc and boyer ignition keeping the zener diode and rectifier.

PS On another note have installed a new kickstart return spring (old one was broken) and kickstart stiff to press down and slow to return as if the spring is binding in its housing when assembled. New bushes and kickstart free on shaft. Can't see how else to install the spring.

When the ammeter is not fitted the brown/white and brown/blue wires to it should be connected together. If doing that blows the fuse that indicates a short to earth elsewhere else in the wiring. Disconnect everything from the loom and reconnect one thing at a time until you find out where the short is.
Sounds like the kickstart spring is incorrectly fitted. Dismantle again and look for witness marks indicating points of contact where there shouldn't be any.

Thanks Rupert, I'll give both of your suggestions a try tomorrow.

That worked on the wiring, turned out I had put a wire on the wrong rectifier terminal, straight to earth!
