Advice wanted on choice of BSA model.

I am 78 3/4 years old (The three quarters are important)
I rode bikes  in my youth, finally a Norton featherbed with super-rocket engine, built from parts.
I recently bought an A10, but it was too heavy for me to manhandle.
I bought a Bantam D175. Its top speed was 65 mph. Too slow for modern traffic.
I restored a C15 SS 80 mph machine, but it was no faster than the bantam. (but sounded much nicer)
I tried a Yamaha virago 250, which easily did 80 mph and was good, except for very heavy  low speed steering, and silly riding position.
I want that sort of performance from a lightweight British classic.
I am thinking B44.
What advice?
Anyone got one for sale?
I am in east anglia. There are several for sale, mostly 4 hours drive away.

I would only question if it would be easy for you to start, being that your 78 3/4

I dont know about that, I have never tried. I have a replacement knee on the KICK side.
I have no problem with my C15 ss with 8.5/1 piston. First kick every time from cold.
I am going to try a 10/1.
I would like to find a B44 close by, that I could have a try at starting.

I'm a bit of a lightweight but did sadly sell my B44VS a couple of years ago as I could tell that kicking it was doing my knee no good at all. Mine was fitted with electronic and would sometimes start first kick. Other times it could be a real pig. I had it for 7 years and never did fathom out a guaranteed starting procedure. Good luck if you get one.

If you chose a pre-unit single Phil Pearson does an electric start kit. If you chose a pre unit twin Steve McFarland does an electric start kit.

I got my 1969 (68) B44 Victor Special..
This has a centre stand, but I dont have the strength to lift it on.
I can start it on the side stand.
I dont like the fact that the gear change is the wrong way round, have to get used to it.
