Hi,

A while back I mentioned that I had found a tip on another forum to improve/change the internal gear ratios on an A65.  The closeness of 3rd and 4th and the big jump from 2nd to 3rd on the standard box are, for the most part, not a problem.  I had found that, when loaded with camping gear and climbing a steep twisty hill like an Alp, then the gap meant that 2nd was too buzzy and 3rd a bit lumpy.  So something in between might help.
So I did find a pair of CLR 2nd gear pinions and I have fitted them in place of the STD 3rd gear pinions.
The CLR layshaft second goes in place of the STD main shaft 3rd pinion and CLR main shaft 2nd pinion goes in place of the STD 3rd layshaft pinion.  Easy peasy.
Was it worth it?  I do not really know yet as, living in Lincolnshire there are no proper hills to test it on but I am hoping that as I now have gear ratios close to those of an A10 I will not get in the way of my wife's 'Flash as we climb hills.
I have worked out that the internal ratio is 1.2447 as opposed to the standard of 1.144.
Further updates as and when.

Dave.
