C15 Exhaust pipe 1966

My recently acquired project C15 came with a new silencer and exhaust pipe.  Unfortunately the exhaust pipe doesn't quite fit. The silencer would have to be suspended from the outer end of the pillion footrest. And there is no way to get the rider's foot peg back on.

It seems that the exhaust pipe needs to bend around the lower engine mount bolt.

Is the pipe normally in contact with the engine mount nut, the rider's footrest and the lower side of the engine?

I am trying to mount the silencer bracket on the inside of the footrest bolt - i.e. the nut side.

I guess all consumable parts are 'pattern' - so likely to be less than perfect. Is there a brand of exhaust pipe that can be recommended?

Thanks

The pipe should sit just above the riders right foot rest.
Does the pipe mounting bracket line up with the front engine mounting bolt?
If the pipe is hanging too low it could be a B40 pipe as the B40 head is about 15mm taller so the exhaust pipe outlet is higher.

The pipe is at the right height, and the bracket lines up with the front engine mounting bolt. But it is then a centimeter or so too far away from the engine to be able to refit the rider footrest.

I had a badly fitting header pipe, I made sure it fit nice and square in the exhaust port, and then (off the bike) put a large pipe in the other end and relieved the circumference somewhat. It fits perfectly after some persuasion. It's always an option.

My Rupert Ratio book arrived today - and describes my problem. Apparently BSA made an engine bolt with a low profile head specifically for this. So I will concentrate on doing something about the massive nut and washer on mine!

Amongst the boxes of junk that came with this project bike, I have today discovered an original, low-profile head, lower engine mount bolt. So I can remove the shiny but useless new bolt he had fitted and hopefully the exhaust will now fit without interference.
