Hi All,
I have a A10 factory replacement frame that I bought through a British bike part supplier here in Australia,

I have contacted the Roads and Traffic here to see about getting the frame stamped with numbers

All they have said is that I need proof that it is a factory replacement frame,

I'm unsure of how to get the information that they need,

is there anyway of getting certification that it has come to Australia as replacement frame

All help appreciated
regards Peter

I would expect the answer to the question to be NO unless a bone fide frame number has been stamped on the frame at some point - that would be the only way to identify the frame now. I would also have thought, that in all probability, if it doesn't have a frame number stamped on it then it must be a factory replacement frame since there could not have been any other manufacturer at the time with the tooling necessary to make a stock A10 frame?

Julian, will most likely have answered any of your questions. If you already have paperwork for a bike then it would be simple enough to just re-stamp the frame yourself.

It could also have been a frame that has been stamped at some time and if its a late one with a full headstock wrap-around gusset plate (where the number will have been stamped) then it may have had the gusset plate removed. Earlier frames had the half gusset plate and the numbers were stamped directly on the headstock tube.

Or it could just be a standard replacement frame.

Depending on when it was sent out would depend on what it looks like, one of my fathers A10's has a replacement frame, being a 58 it should have the half gusset plate (which it doesn't, it has the full type as per 1960 onwards) and it has two brackets/lugs for the rear brake cable.

Depending on when the replacement frame was ordered, it may or may not have extra lugs on there, but it would have been the responsabilty of the local dealer to re-stamp the frame and fit everything from one frame to the other (engine, tinware etc).

Thanks Alan,

yes it has the full gusset on the headstock,
so thats another thing I have learnt, 1960 onwards replacement frames had the full Gusset

plus it has also had the rearset mounts attached to the rear frame loop
