I have a bsa starfire with a fiberglass tank, that I would like to change, can anyone recommend a steel tank that will fit
Cheers

Ian C

My B44 is a 68 model and originally had a fibreglass tank. I just found a 1969 / 70 model steel tank and fitted that.

Dear crazy frog.
I went through the same loop. I cleaned the old fibreglass tank out with solvent and then added a liner thinking that it would solve the petrol problem but all it did was to work for a few days and then the lining material delamination.  So what I have now is a tank full of knacked tank liner
Options buy a steel tank from India or buy a 60s steel tank. I ended up buying a triumph tr25w steel tank and painted it starfire blue and white.
Maybe there are others who can recommend one of the many tank suppliers based in India who can produce a decent product that does not leak?

I was in the same boat, especially with our "known lousy" California gas and its ethanol. My Starfire came with two fiberglass tanks. The larger one that was on the bike was unlined and the smaller (original) tank had already been lined....but how good of a job was it?
I bit the bullet and ordered one of the steel tanks off Ebay from India. It is still in the box, as my bike is still on the lift being gone through prior to first fire.

I have no idea if the tank leaks or not. I can tell you this for sure, it is not even remotely close to Nutley/Sapphire blue and ivory, as the Ebay pic showed. It's a much deeper blue and white. I ended up ordering the correct colors from RS Paints and will shoot it myself. I'll do the oil tank and battery cover at the same time. I wanted to leave it original as the paint is in pretty decent shape but this tank thing has me on a different path now. Funny thing is the company reached out to me last week regarding how I liked the tank. I told them it seemed a nice quality, but if they'd like to swap me for a true nutley blue and ivory tank, I'd take them up on it. So far, crickets.

The tank build quality itself seems very good and all the welds look nicely done. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it also came with a brand new gas cap (wrapped separately). The entire box was packaged very well. Regarding product quality from India, they seem to be building themselves the reputation of putting out quality products, like the RE, KTM 390, and now the Gold Star, among others. Hopefully this tank will be fine. Heck, for under $300.00 delivered, if I need to paint it, so be it.

Hi 2lz
As you say the colour match is now even close.
Most of the tanks from India claim to be lined( with what?) To protect the steel from ethanol in the petrol.
Just wondering if you would recommend the Indian supplier you used apart from the colour not matching. My view is that if it holds petrol without leaking then the colour can be fixed fairly easily. As you say for 300 dollars including delivery charge then its not a bad deal. The problem being what if it leaks when you come to use it do you send it back or try and fix it locally? Let's hope it's all fine.

For what it's worth I have had 5 tanks from India. Non have leaked and they all seem to be covered internally with what looks like grey paint which seems to be resistant to to what we call petrol.

Dear Idie,
It's good to hear that you have had no issues with the 5 tanks bought from India and that the lining seems to be holding up.
Just wondered if there was one tank manufacturer from India you would recommend since I would like to get one for the Starfire rather than  use the triumph tr25w tank that I have at present.

I think they were called Pummey 13

Dunc

Dear idie
Thanks for that. You are the second person who have suggested pummey as having a fair record of tanks that work. I will check them out.
Thanks

Did you find Pummey on E Bay? I'm struggling to find his wares.
