Well I run an RGS which has the longer collets and a year ago I rebuilt the engine and when I took the valve out one half of one collet had broke in half, Now i have that dam rocker box leak which is driving me mad.....I have just striped the head and found one of the other half collet has broken....... so can anyone help out with a set so I can replace them all as it seems they all Might go the same way....... as I say they are the longer ones...............   HELP PLEASE.

Hi Guys

Has No one got any ? I have my head back from having it machined on the Rocker box face and the valve Guides back in and all the seats cut and valves lapped in, and can`t put it back together without the collets as that's all I am waiting for so if anyone knows where to go or have some please get in touch.

Cheers

Mo

I haven't got any , but , when you do get some it looks very much like they need lapping in . Something often missed but is pretty important . Sounds like yours need it . I am talking about the collets .

Auto Engineering 01384253030 of Dudley west midlands have helped me with parts and they advertise " BSA - GOLD STAR valve colletts, several types " available .

Hi ya

I will give them a try many thanks

Oh when you say they need lapping in do you mean the Collets in the spring top cup ? or do you mean in the valve head itself ?

Have had a word with a few people and they have never heard of lapping anything to do with Valve collets .....so have you guys out there come across that ?

Hi,

Can you post a photo of what you have?  In needed RR/SR type valve caps and collets and got them from C&D Autos.

Dave.

collets in the top spring cup . I had a broken collet years ago and an older chap i lived next door to told me to lap the new collets to the old retainers , which i did and have done for years after . Never had a broken or displaced collet ever since .

thanks Guy`s

I have a set coming from George Prew so I don`t think it will hurt to lap them to my Valve cap`s  ;D
