Hi All,

Can someone please advise as to where I can buy a tappet inspection cover for my C15 (1963).  The screw which retained it would originally have been in a recess in the middle, but this part of the casting has snapped off leaving a large hole.  The previous owner bodged this by using a hex screw with an over large washer to plug the gap.  Maybe he couldn't find a replacement either.

       Regards,

Here is a picture for clarity

If I can't find a new cover I might use a flanged hex bolt plus a copper washer as a slightly better sort of a bodge.

if of any help its 40-0208 (40-208) and same as on B40. and B50.
I might go up unit tomorrow and take mine off then see if I can get one programmed on the cnc mill at work.

Thanks Chaz,

Using that number I found a supplier in the USA who won't ship to uk anything less than $200.

Best I have found is a supplier in Australia.  How crazy is that?  I'll see if I get any more response before the end of the weekend.  If not I'll place an order.  Should be here, with luck, before the end of my summer hols.

Thanks Ian!

I might just order one of those.  It would be better than a bodge

trouble with not exactly the same but close is the B40 decomp lever, I bought a twisted one, newly made but cant get a cable to suit so resorting to making my own cable, but have to make the adjuster and spring to suit. nipple of engine end different too.

Barnsey

Slightly off subject, but should my C15 have a decompressor lever?

Spaceman

The C15 wasn't fitted with one which was hardly needed even for the B40!

Returning to the subject: if it was me and I couldn't easily find a replacement, I would be tempted to repair the hole using one of the low temperature aluminium welding rods such as Durafix Easyweld Aluminium Welding Rods. Essentially, this would involve filling the hole with the weld material using a blow torch and then drilling the correct recessed hole afterwards. I've used similar welding rods to repair both aluminium and aluminium-zinc alloy castings with excellent results.

Barnsey

Now that is an interesting idea!.  I'd never even heard of these welding rods.  That might just work.     What a range of ideas I am getting over a fairly simple problem!
