First gear

Hi all,

Is it normal to have to slip the clutch in first gear until you get to c.10mph on a 1963 A65?

Got stuck behind a string of cars following a cyclist up Ditchling Beacon today. My left hand had a good work out but it overheated the clutch...

I would check the size of gearbox sprocket fitted - parts book lists 16, 17 or 20 tooth sprockets but I think you can also get 22T sprockets. It sounds as though you might have a large sprocket fitted.
