Anybody know what the blanking off thing is called when taking out the distributor to install the electrexworld electronic ignition.

I think that when BSA first went to side points they tapped the dizzy location bore and fitted a threaded plug similar to the one used on the primary case. I got a mate with a lathe to turn up an aluminium plug which he made a tight fit with a hexagonal head. A little bit of sealant prior to fitting and job done, looks ok. I did consider leaving dizzy in place to keep original looks, but decided it looks tidier with a plug. If you want I can post a photo of assembled plug, I don't want to take the plug out as it's quite a good fit and may resist.

The blanking plug is part 40-0715 but this was intended to screw into the top of the unused distributor tunnel which, as said, was tapped. This plug is exactly the same as the clutch inspection plug in the chaincase so you could try this in the distributor tunnel to see whether it could be made to fit, perhaps with a bit of filing back of the thread. If suitable, it could then be sealed in place with a suitable epoxy.

Decided to make one on the lathe. I'll have a spare primary case plug when it comes through the post!

Worked out quite well.

Very nice job - my Super 7 lathe has always proved to be invaluable when faced with this type of problem :)

Looks good and probably easier to make than modifying a primary case plug.
