Hi . I am a newbie to this forum and will probably be using frequently in connection with my new project a 1965 a65 lightning.
It had been in storage in a crate in bits by the previous owner for over 30 years
First job was dry build to see what was missing damaged. Fortunately not much of the important stuff :)

However I do not have details of the under tank layout showing how the coils are mounted and cannot see in parts list or manuals.

If any one has an under tank pic of coils on a UK bike circa 64/65 with the tank off it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Peter C

Hi Peter am almost finished building a 1965 A65 Lightning and, like you, I had to ask the good people on this forum questions (in my case more than could be considered reasonable), but they have all been answered with great patience.

First thing to know is that there are a number of arrangement depending on: how many carbs you have (I've got a single Mikuni), what year the bike is. Some arrangements are with the coils in a Vee. Others with both standing vertical. While there is an arrangement with one standing at a slight vertical angle - while the other one lays flat ......

I found some of the fittings on the bike were very, er vague, so I decided to ask then, based on the good info I received, make my own brackets.....

Tomorrow I'll post a couple of piccies of the coil bracket arrangement that I eventually had to bodge up....... They might give you a pointer..... (maybe of what not to do)

Or maybe someone who really knows will explain just how they should be mounted.

Many thanks Gerald. Mine is a 1964 twin carb lightning. Look forward to the pics.
Thanks again.

Not sure if these give the right amount of clarity but should give you a flavour...... (The coils are angled out in a 'V')

If you do need more information let me know....

Best regards,
Dave.
