there are special tools , screw driver or tee bar style with tapered hook on the end, commonly used for pulling motocross exhaust springs on, otherwise, take the centre s tand off and use it to lever back into place once spring fitted.

Hi,
Remove the stand is the safest way to take the spring off.

A tool, 5/16" dia, 1/16" wall thickness, 15" long tube. Cut end as shown in images , slip into spring eye and lever on.

Best wishes...

Thanks for the replies , Bess did similar but only had a solid round bar the right diameter drilled a hole part way through near the end, put the holed end through the eye put hole on the bar on the hook on the stand and levered on had to hold the bar with grips to stop it twisting. Roy

RESTORER

Hi, I couldn't find the previous post you mentioned, but here is a method which I use on my A10 and it works well. The clamp (could be any ring with a grub screw fitted) is positioned 2" from the screwdriver end, which is grooved and the driver put through the eye to the clamp. As long as the blade face is held square to the spring pull, it does not slip off the spigot. Just grease the back of the blade from the clamp to the end and lever away. When the blade axis passes the line of the spigot, the spring slides, or rather flies, down to the spigot.  I do wear safety glasses for this, just in case.
