Fitting new pump

just inthe process of fitting new SRM oil pump  to  the Hornet and i noticed it comes with a new "lock washer" and pinion nut. The washer differs from the conventional item somewhat, so my question is which way round do you fit it? The obvious to me is with the tang toward and under the pinion itself.  Please advise. Further investigations through the very helpful guys at SRM say that the direction of the lock washer doesn't matter! They tell me that the tang on the washer might need "fettling " to fit nicely  in the groove. It can then be slid under the worm drive. Great. Another happy ending! Cheers. Dave
