Pulled apart the clutch and gearbox on my C15.

The push rod going through the centre of the main shaft is stuck in there - see images.

Is there a knack to getting these out or do I just hammer it?

Thanks

Was the clutch operating properly? It should just slide out. My guess would be it's bent slightly or has a burr on it or something like that.

It's it's going to have to come out. Before I used too much force I would check a replacement is available. Then perhaps try getting some grips on it to see if rotating it might free it up or gently drifting it out.

Good morning,

The end of that pushrod looks like it has seen some abuse and as mentioned could be bent.  I would also suspect that it has run dry and perhaps seized.  Perhaps some penetrating oil dripped in to one end and see if it comes out of the other.  This may be enough to free it off enough to be rotated and/or tapped out.  If it is seized then knocking it out dry may result in rough areas being left inside the shaft.  Quite difficult to remedy and could affect the smooth operation of a new rod.

OK thanks.

I'll try the penetrant and twist method first as I don't want to jam it in there for good.

The clutch was completely seized - the bike was kept at the back of a garage for a few decades - so all the friction plates etc were bonded with rust and corrosion. I'm assuming the inside of the shaft is equally knackered.

Thanks for the advice

Hopefully it won't be too bad. I would expect plenty of oil and gentle persuasion will do it. I meant to add hold the rod in a vice so you could try twisting it gently too.

It's also small enough to soak in a tub of some jollop overnight to give it proper soaking.

Good luck and let us know the outcome.
