DAVE BRADY

Hi,

Just in case you do not have a good diagram.

AIR SCREW as labelled on the diagram - 1 to 1.5 turns out.

PILOT JET screwed in and nipped up and the fibre washer and PILOT JET COVER NUT fitted and nipped up.

Dave.

Its defiantly timing issues.

Can anybody recommend a BSA whizz in the Beaconsfield / High Wycombe (or local ish) area.

Many thanks

Greenfield

I think most of us have been in this situation at some point. If you have a spark at the plugs and a flooded carb with the pilot air screw around 1 1/2 turns, idle screw set a bit fast, full choke and no throttle, get someone to put their hand over the air intake and kick it over (its a bit difficult on your own). This provides massive suction which squirts fuel into the cylinders, and it should fire even if the timing and carburation are a bit out. Give it a go, it costs nothing and won't do any harm.

Sorry about my earlier suggestion re pilot jet- was thinking Concentric I suppose.
I've got to relearn these Mono's myself as I'm putting a pair on my latest project.

We've all been there with a bike that wont start.  Hang in.

 :) :) :)

Plugs out. Splash of petrol down each plug hole Kick it over. If you dont get a fire up then I guess you will have run out of ideas. If it does fire up then you know its definitely a fuel problem. Its a method i'Ve used quite often especially with lawn mowers that have bee idle for the winter etc.

Hi
I had a similar problem not long ago and my A65 hates the carbs being tickled. So starting method is no tickler at all just full choke from cold and no throttle. Seems odd but works every time for me so can't hurt to give it a go ?
Cheers Dave

Hi Everyone,

I can't remember if i said that when cleaning the Carb i also changed the kick start spindle..........?
Turns out the Carb was a red herring!

When i took the timing cover off to change the kick start spindle the intermediate pinion came with it....
Only being a novice i didn't realise the camshaft pinion must have moved over a tooth. So once i checked and lined up the timing marks.......Bobs your uncle as they say.
Feel a bit of a twit as on reflection its pretty basic.

All up and running, ready for a road test, what a relief....
I've  certainly learnt a lot......

Thanks to everyone for the useful comments.
The forum is defiantly a great and powerful tool.

I did ring a couple of guys in the trade, who where also helpful, but to busy to really look (which turned out to be a bit of luck, as it spurred me on).
One of the guys i spoke to had close his order books as he had over 2 years work ahead of him......... unbelievable.

Thanks again guys.

Kevin

Thanks for telling the end of the tale. I reckon we were all beginning to think past fuel and its certainly a road I've travelled. I hadn't tightened my ignition rotor screw properly and the ignition played its own game. I assumed fuel---wrong. Spent a lot of time shasing a non existent problem

Good honest result hope all goes well now.
