Hi   Just joined, and hoping for some advice. I need a Stop plate (gear change spring) for a 1965 A65 (part nr 68-3118). Cant seem to find one anywhere and was wondering if the later model stop plate (57-4028) could be used or could be modified. The adjacent return spring with which they engage looks identical for early and later models.
Thanks

Hi John,

             Welcome to the forum.

I think you mean part number 68-3083? You cant use the later plate, I guess you could modify depending on skill and machines you have available the keyway looks the most difficult to form.

Best wishes...

Thanks for the reply and the photos; they are very helpful.  Looking at them, I think I'd better search around for an original, as you say, the mod wouldnt be that easy.

I bought the earlier one,(on the right in pic) a few months ago and I think it was either Drags or Kidderminster. BUT I had to drill and tap it myself and put grub screws in to hold it in place. I actually put two in at about 120 degrees apart and drilled through VERY slightly into the shaft to ensure rotation was not possible. I had replaced the shaft so there was no keyway on it.

Hi John,

I think that I may have one that I do not need as my bikes have the later plate.  I will have a look later and let you know.  Where about are you?

Dave.

Hi,

I have found one.  It is identical but without the part number cast on and there is no grub screw.

I think the grub screws are 2ba (I had to buy 10 but I haven't gotta clue where the other 8 are)

Hi,

The one I have does not even have a hole for the grub screw so perhaps a very early one.

Mine didn't either so you need to be a bit careful with the line up

Hi,

The key should give the right position so the grub screw was probably just to keep it that bit more secure on the shaft.
