cam spindles

On the DB350 engine I am rebuilding both cam spindles are marked exhaust. In the Haynes manual it says that they are marked inlet and exhaust  to aid reassembly. In the Gold Star book it does not mention this. I cant see any difference between the two or am I missing something. Does it matter? Any thoughts please.
