Is the 1965 Lightning petrol tank fuel tap adaptor (where the tap fits into the tank) a 3/8 BSPT (tapered) or 3/8 BSPP (parallel) please?

ChrisG

I would say parallel as the standard tap has a flange on it. I recommend using a copper/rubber washer available from Hitchcocks as this compresses a good way whilst still sealing so you can get the tap pointing in the right direction.

Thanks for that Chris, I'll get some new adaptors..

Do you reckon that Dowty washers would be ok for sealing the tap? (I happen to have a few of them laying about)

ChrisG

Problem is they don't have much compression as the out ring is steel. Also, they need to be ethanol proof. The problem is that the tap will bottom out, when tightened down, in a certain position. If this is with the plunger facing forward then fine. But it could be the plunger facing inwards and difficult to get at. With the copper/rubber ones, you can please yourself and it will still seal.

Your advice gratefully accepted Chris, i'll get some of the copper/ rubber ones. (just desperate to use available stock I guess)

Best regards and thanks again,
Dave.
