I am poised to commence a carb swap on the B33. Only one minor detail is preventing the inaugeral spanner work... I don't have a clue of what to expect or, indeed, how the existing cables disconnect/connect and what other hazards I may encounter. I have trawled Amazon & fleabay as well as motorcycle orientated booksellers and specialist dealers...There does not appear to be a 'Carburettor Bible' in existence. If anyone has knowledge of such a booklet please share your knowledge with me.

Carb change is not going well... it appears that a new carb ordered for a specific model does not work 'out of the box' - back to the drawing board!

What a performance... The new cables terminated at the carburettor end in ferrules which would not fit into the adjusters screwed into the carburettor cap. The ferrules were 6mm & the apertures they fit in were 5.7mm. After nervous drilling they fitted, but the inner cable did'nt appear to be long enough, eventually ended up where the inner cables seemed to be too long! After much head scratching and careful attention to the cable route and by dint of almost max adjustment at all three adjustment points the cable now fits and works as it should.Just hope it doesn't stretch, must remember not too indulge in rapid acceleration when riding out! Also, I think I have 'tuned' the thing successfully, although I have not road tested it yet and, as I seemed to be on a roll, I have also managed to get all the lights working normally with the new LED bulbs, need to try them out too. Just the centre stand to sort out now and I have a cunning plan!

Well done, keep us informed.

About 6 weeks ago I put a new Amal 376/1716 on my B33, I didn't have any of the hassle that you have. The bike runs so much better now. I;m sure that you'll feel that it was worth doing.

MGI

Really the entire hassle factor was occasioned by my decision to replace the cables at the same time - hence the problem with the ferrules and the problem with the cable lengths viz inner & outer. The bike does appear to be much improved but tonights branch ride out will be the defining factor.
