Been browsing on fleabay and noticed that someone in the states is selling some O rings to replace cork on petrol taps. Has anyone tried Viton O rings? Has it been successful? If so, what size was used?

did some a few years ago pre ethanol as I had a good supply of rings,  also got a supply of corks but not used many as tend to change taps as well due to having to soak the corks which used to tear. you could try

but he does say about worn bores , and I wonder about being ethanol proof after fuel ate away rubber hose and brass insides on my BSA A12 and Triumph T100 taps

I thought Viton was ethanol proof

has it been proved?
how much ethanol 5% or 20% in the future?
how long ? is 2 years long enough to say it  will last 20 years?

in my mind the jury is still out..

I thought corks were ethanol proof.  Had no problem so far even with occasional use of E10.  Never soaked corks prior to fitting just a bit of grease to help them slide in.  The taps do wear so do not expect perfect result in a very worn tap even with a new cork. If storing the bike without fuel then remove the taps and leave them in some oil in a sealed container.   This stops the corks drying out.

A similar o ring solution was covered in another britbike forum. Here is the link.

The problem is the o rings get cut or nicked when they pass the small hole in the barrel of the tap.

we will stick to corks then!
