Hi. I am wondering if it is possible to use a Boyer system designed for BSA/Triumph twins on a unit single (B25/C15 side points) as a lost spark set up?
Found the Boyer in a box of bits i got from somewhere & as Wassell do a universal system thought i may be able to use it.

Thanks,  Dave

Hi,

I've got a Boyer MIcro MkIV as you describe fitted to my C15. It was on there when I bought the bike and works well as far as I can tell. The unit says for Triumph/BSA twins and sinlges. My bike had a distributor and they advise against it as it relies on the lights to regulate the charging system. If the lights ren't on there's a chance it could over voltage the unit it and destroy it. I don't think this is an issue with the later models and side points.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that Blackthou.
I wasn't sure if the advance curve would be different for a twin but don't see why cos surely the advance per rev is the same be it a twin or a single?
Hopefully there's a boffin who can explain the workings or the transistor box wizzardry & what differentiates the units.
Many thanks in advance, (no pun intended!)

Dave.

I have a Boyer MkIV on my B40, side points.  I suggests that you ask Boyer if box, stator plate and rotor plate are the same.
A note on the distributor models. I think it's not the distributor, it's the 3-wire alternator.  It uses one coil for ignition and battery charging. When switching on lights, a second coil is switched in providing more output from the alternator. A crude way for not getting to much voltage that will overcharge the battery. Later models used the 2-wire alternator with a zener diode to keep output voltage  under approx. 14.7 V.

Thanks Mike. All my stuff has been converted to 12v with modern rectifier/regulator so no issues there.
