Hi again
Re the centre stand knocking on the exhaust, there should be two flats above the pivots which stop the stand rocking too forward or backwards. These develop a depression through use allowing the stand to travel too far. Build up with a spot of weld in the worn area and grind to the correct height.
When not in use, my centre stand stops going further up because the return spring rests on the 'U' shaped cross member between the rear legs of the bottom frame.
With the side stand, if you cut and thread, you'll be able to adjust to a reasonable length before welding. If you don't have a welder, once correctly adjusted, take the stand to your local body repair shop and it'll only take 5 minutes.

Thanks for the info re the stand. I'll check it out

Hi again.

I just had a gander at my Rupert Ratio bible and it states for side stands:

8 1/4" from pivot centre to foot centre, used on all B25, B44, TR25w and B40 military from 67 to 69.

9 1/2" long over these distances fitted to C15 and B40 road models for all years and 63 onwards duplex framed competition models.

I hope this may help with the dimensions of your extended version.

Hi Marshall,

Thanks for those intersting facts. It would appear mine is spot on but why a manufacturer would chooses such an acute angle is peculiar. My bike won't tick over on it.

Bikes fitted with Monobloc carbs tend not to tick over well on the side stand as the fuel fulls away from the outlet causing a weak mixture. Try it next time you are on the bike lean it one way then the other and hear the difference in engine revs.

That makes sense and also the reason for a concentric float bowl. I'll have to be careful when trying to get my knee down on a left hander ;)
