Hi everyone, I literally  just joined. I have been riding all my life. I am looking to buy a 1959 Super Rocket. The dealer has sent me the engine and frame number.
By looking on the owners club  website the numbers appear to be '59 / '60. I've read that BSA numbers from that period don't match. How can I check  the bike has the engine it was fitted with at the factory?
Is this a service the club offers. Can someone point me in the right direction please.

Welcome to the site, you can obtain what you require from the club, on the home page click on club services then machine dating scroll to the bottom of the page aNd you will see what you have to do to get a dating certifiCate which will tell you what you want also it will tel you the date it left the factory and to which dealer it was dispatched to. I have used this service a number of times but be aware that Steve is a busy man and be patient when waiting for a reply in my case it usally took a couple of weeks but was well worth it.

Last time I spoke to Steve he said he was all up to date with dating certs so he should be able to turn your request around in a reasonable time.
Re your concerns, they all have A7 frame nos and A10 engine numbers. Quite a few people are drawn to think the bike started life as an A7 which it didn't.

my A10 has a ZA10 engine number and a ZA7S frame number, both Golden Flash plungers engine from 1950, frame from 1952. also bear in mind bikes of this age could have a different engine. A customer came in with a Ariel Square 4 engine to be rebuilt, he had had the castings sand blasted.. the bearing bores were all oversize and wouldnt hold and the cases were written off, only a couple of years ago.
