The thread on the carburettor body that round knurled nut screws onto to hold the air slide in place has worn to the extent that I cannot tighten the said nut. anybody got any suggestions, other than throw the carb away.

it would be a total bodge, but you could put a saw cut through it and nip it up a bit with a jubilee clip ??? A more attractive method would be to solder a couple of lugs to the cut ends and put a small screw through it to nip it up with the same effect. It would get another year or two out of the carb anyway  :)

firstly, which carb? series.

options... helicoil, loctite or reclaim.
one may be easy but not fluid proof, one might be affected by fuel which leaves the third as long as sufficient material and position.

Hi David
I have the same problem on a 289 carburetor. The threads just marginally grab. I have found that applying medium (blue) thread lock and gentle hand tightening works for me.

Sorry, I'm not going to be very helpful, but there used to be someone that fixed the thread issue. Not sure how, but I assumed he machined off the old thread and somehow replaced it.
Like I said; not helpful, unless the business is still going?

Being realistic with the top thread that worn expect more wear in the rest of the body.

plumbers ptfe tape might work . gas tape is thicker.

Hi,

I would agree with Julian and suggest if possible to find another less worn carb. or buy a new one.  It must be remembered that it is not just the moving parts that wear out but also the tiny air and fuel galleries that get eroded over time/use.

Dave.
