Hi,
Can anyone help with the bracket dimensions.

I believe it should be offset and the one I have been supplied is of equal dimensions.

Thanks...

ChrisG

Hi Bess,
No, the bracket is symmetrical across the mudguard and hangs about an inch either side. The mudguard is offset by a longish spacer on the left and a short one on the right. The length of the top damper bolts differ accordingly. The spacers are item 4 on plate 11 and there are two of them 68-4906 and 40-4909.
Hope this helps
Chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks for that, solves a mystery. I have 1 bracket symmetrical and 1 offset, I guess someone redesigned it to use the same size spacers.

Best wishes...

I can confirm the brackets are inner and over symmetrical,  when I had my thunderbolt I made up blocks to manufacture them using a press.

Bess

Hi Chaz,
             So they are not symmetrical?

Best wishes...

Hi Chaz,
Unfortunately there is also a bracket which isn't:

https://www.vintage-motorcycle.com/en/parts/bsa-68/bsa-a50-a65-mudguard-bridge-black

https://www.classicbritishspares.com/products/bsa-rear-mudguard-mounting-bridge-bracket-68-6767-1965-70-lightning-thunderbolt

I have both but I will be using the symmetrical with the spacers.

Thanks all...

I have photos of both sides for clarity. Problem is due to the low limit for size of files on the forum (the pictures are 1.5MB each)  I cant upload and send, even on two separate posts.
Do any of you techy chaps know how to reduce the resolution of a picture?

Chris, there are various on line picture reducing software sites to resize but I tend to take the picture and save it as jpeg or bmp. assuming you are using Windows.
then I open it up with right click on mouse, and select "open with" and select "paint".
the picture will open up and there should be a "resize" option.
either by percentage or pixels
you are looking for around 1024kb, if you right click on your picture you will see how many pixels it currently has.
then, you can either resize by percentage until you get near what you need , trial and error. or if you get a message saying its too big in horizontal or vertical then you can change the figure to near the allowed limit. once size obtained then you can save, I usually save as the picture name and small after so I have both versions.

Hi Chris,

It may vary from pc to pc but on a mac put the memory card in the mac and open it.  Copy the image on to the desk top.  Open it in Preview and look under Tools and then Adjust Size.  The first option is for pixels. In the dropdown select the image size that you want.  I always use 1920 x 1080.  At the bottom it gives the resulting size and the original size.  Save the changes and the saved desktop image should be the new size and ready to attach to the post.
The other option is to reduce the image quality on the camera/phone if it goes below 1MB.
I hope this helps as I would think that most pcs are the same.

Dave.

Many Thanks Chaz and Dave (mmmm...... ever thought about forming a band?)
I've done what you said and Bingo, here are the pics.
They show the LH side is the longer spacer. This is on my 1970 A50.

Here is the RH one. I'll try to work out how to get two pics in the same post next time!

Hi,
     Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Chris, the image is helpful as some sites list part 40-4909 (RHS) as 3/8 x 7/8 x 1.120, others as 3/8 x 3/4 x 5/16. Your image confirms it is the latter.

To add more images to your post, under the box stating "Choose file" hoover over the wording: (more attachments) , when your cursor changes to to a hand, left click. Max 4 per post.

Best wishes...

Hi Bess,
Thanks for the tip!
