Where did you get the correct nut from?

I got the correct nut from C&D Autos.  Tracy Farm, Redditch Road, Ullenhall, Henley-in-Arden B95 5NY.  01564 795000.

I took the clutch hub nut I had been supplied with me and called in to visit whilst attending a conference at the NEC near Birmingham.  They had a spare gearbox shaft for test purposes. The nut I had been supplied was very tight and would not go on the shaft correctly. The nuts they had in stock were a smooth fit on the threaded shaft.

They don't have a website. Phone is probably the best way to contact them.

Excellent. Thanks so much. I spoke to Mark at C&D Autos, and he will get the nut to me.

I had a similar problem recently. The shaft thread is 5/8" x 20 tpi CEI. What happens is that the thread on the shaft becomes distorted by general wear and tear - removing and replacing the nut many times without proper cleaning. The nut wears as well and continues to be an easy fit. The problem becomes apparent when a new nut is used. I ran a good quality die very carefully down the shaft to clean up the thread to fix the problem.
I hope that is useful.

Often the reason for fitting a new nut is when a new clutch is fitted. The change from 6 spring to the 4 spring clutch requires a nut of completely different design so the old nut can not be re-used.  The 4 spring clutch centre nuts are 5/8 inch thread for A10 and 9/16 for A65 but both look identical and may be easily muddled by a supplier. I managed to get what turned out to be a 9/16 nut a couple of turns on my 5/8 A10 gearbox shaft but it was extremely tight. As a consequence I needed to use a good 5/8 die to tidy up the gearbox shaft thread before I fitted the correct 5/8 size nut.
