S29 Sloper 3 Speed Gearbox problems

While that gear does look rather nasty I can't see it being the reason you can't get into 2nd or 3rd - unless I'm missing something.It might be rather noisy, but I'd expect the gear to still mesh.  I'd expect the selection problem to be associated with the selector forks and operating shaft.  Have you got them out yet?

Things have progressed apace - see photo. 

The good news is that I have just managed to negotiate a trade with an Australian guy who will send me a complete selector shaft. I think I will still see about getting mine braized and machined so I have a backup.

I've had a variety of advice regarding the mainshaft gear missing tooth, from "ignore it", to "get it built up and reprofiled and don't worry about the loss of hardening", to "I had a replacement gear unit made and pressed onto the mainshaft, but was very expensive".....   

So, not sure how best to proceed right now. I'm not keen to leave it as is, even though it seems to be an old breakage (since I could find no sign of the missing tooth).
