Hello everyone - this is my first post (of what will be many) on this forum!

I'm embarking on my first BSA rebuild: a 1969 BSA B44 which has been in bits at my dads for about 30years (alongside is Starfire).

I'm currently assembling the wheel components ready to be built and wondered if anyone can advise me on what the offsets will be so I can let the wheel builder know.

The front hub is a 8" full-width with TLS

The rear is a 7" SLS that bolts to a smaller full width hub.

Any help/advice would be most appreciated! Happy to share pics of my re-build as I go.

I had some B40 wheels rebuilt by Central Wheels in Coleshill. I asked them if they needed the wheel whole before the rebuild as I wanted to remove the spokes to clean up and powder coat the hubs. They said the hubs would do. I  assume they had various measurements for the off sets for various bikes. Have you asked the wheel builder if he has any information or is he relying on you to give him the measurements?

Thanks Adrian, I'll check with the wheel builder I've found.

I initially went to CWC and Devon Rim co - both asked me to supply the offset.

For the back wheel this is already built, but the wheelbuilder used standard steel spokes (which have now gone rusty) hence I want to get them swapped out for stainless ones. The rim was new and never been ridden, however both Devon and CWC refused to build on to the existing rim as they only build on ones they've supplied, hence I'm having to find a new wheel builder so I can keep the rim and just swap the spokes. (I did wonder if I can do this myself>)

I only have the front hub (it's not in an existing wheel) hence the offset can't be copied.

...took your advice: just called my wheel builder (Brickwood Wheel Builders), he asked me about the hubs and knows what the offset will be. Thanks for the simple suggestion! I can now crack on with getting them built.

Hi all,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, however I'm struggling to find the offset figures for my bike. Does anyone know an online resource that lists the standard offsets?

The bike I'm building is a BSA B44 Shooting Star with an 8" TLS full-width front hub. The rear is a 7". Both rims are WM2 18". I can't seem to find standard specs online. Can anyone help? My wheel builder has asked for the numbers.

 :) :)

Brickwood has done 6 or 7 pairs for me over the last few???? years. Some from just hubs. I have no complaints and would recommend him. Bit slow sometimes but not badly so and usually ready when he says they will be.

However if you decide on galvanised spokes then there could be a delay cos he has them treated in a batch when he needs enough. Maybe that's not a problem anymore.
