I was thinking of fitting a bar grip mirror to a B31, Do i need to increase the hole size in the grip to fit this style mirror to accept the expanding lug? I struggle with full neck movement and thought this would be a welcome addition although it may detract from the style a little.

you shouldn`t have to, they will fit ok,  don`t skimp , buy a good quality one,

The one illustrated isn't the best. The Halcyon range has a much more secure fitting.

Not sure when you say increase the hole size in the grip? If you are mounting it on the right side of the bike, you will have to cut away any rubber over the end of the bars to fit the mirror and also make sure the rubber grip doesn't catch the mirror when twisting it.
That sort of mirror fits fine but as said before, don't skimp and buy a cheap one!

I have these on several bikes. Only ones I have tried that don't vibrate loose and you can actually see what is behind you.

So have carefully cut the rubber on the throttle grip with a craft knife blade and tidied it up; on insert of the expanding insert, I am finding it will not tighten enough, the bars are slightly tapered at the ends and the mirror rotates, the next size insert included is to large however. Any ideas for resolution to ensure the twist grip returns as well. I bought Oxford mirrors in the end, these were the only ones stocked locally.

it has been suggested to cut the Bars to remove the taper then the expanding inserts will work, this sounds logical, but before I think about cutting want to check.

Bar end mirros should fit properly and tighten up without the need to cut bars.

The Halcyon ones are without doubt the best you can get and would fit properly.

I have used them for a number of years having tried various different makes before, including rubber mounted ones.

If the Oxford ones dont fit I would take them back and get a refund.

Hi Julian, its not that the oxfords are poor quality, they seem very well made, it is the issue of the tapered bar ends, meaning the smaller insert will not expand enough to grip and the larger size will not fit the bar as it is.

JulianS

That is unusual at the bar end, I dont think any mirror mounting would fit that unless you trim it.

Increasing the tapered opening carefully with a Dremel tool and the use of a more sturdy 10mm Rawl bolt has allowed me to make the fixing without needing to cut the bar to remove the taper.
