 :)

My M20 gearbox is poorly and I am not a gearbox person.

Anyone able to recommend a gearbox man. Distance no object.

The M series box isn't really complicated...download the service sheer- 608 I think- take some photos at strategic points as you strip it down and it'll be fine .......probably !

Hi Thanks for that. I shall probably go that way. (I would also like a back up rescue service). However I have never been a gearbox person and I'm not sure what I would be looking for.

But I'll give it a go.

Hi Mike

I have a file that contains a fair bit of info on these gearboxes but it is too large to post here.

If you drop me a mail at petercomley@web.de I'll send it to you

cheers

The guys on the M20 forum are very knowledgeable and helpful. You may even find someone to do the job for you.

Once again thank you all for your interest and advice. I now intend to try and sort it myself and will let you know how it goes.

The worst that can happen is that I shall end up with a slack handful of cogs and bits on the bench. Then I may need a gearbox man.

Have you rebuilt that gearbox yet Mike ;)

Have you checked the technical section on the Wm20 website? There is information there on how to rebuld the box.

Hi Mike,

Just finished re-building the box on my M21 (and every other part!) If bearings and bushes are good then the only thing I found that needed attention was the pawl mechanism. I replaced the two springs and adjusted the operating rod in order to get a reliable shift.

On mine the bushes were OK but bearings shot - fairly easily replaced.

Give me a shout if you need any help - bernie.a.jones@gmail.com
