Well, the reason that I can't find mine is because the frame has been powder coated and covered it up.
My bike is a 1958 A7SS

Mines been shot blasted off, and I still can't find it!

Shot blasting should not take it off at all. Mine has just been done and is clear as day. I masked over it before it was powder coated for all to see. I then sealed it with some of the wife's nail varnish.

I just don't think it was on there to start with. The bike belonged to my dad, but I can't find any documentation except a hand written bill of sale from the chap he bought it from, and the petrol ration book with the reg. no. I have an engine no. but no frame no.

GLENN

Where all have you checked?

HAYWARD

I've looked everywhere, steering head, seat mount, top tube, even used a magnifying glass, but no number.

GLENN

I must admit that I've never closely examined a B26, but in 1939 BSA were stamping the frame number on a M20 on the front down tube, N/S at the top engine mounting bracket.  Later this was on the down tube, stamped into the casting close to the headstock.

HAYWARD

Not there either, looked everywhere.

GLENN

Well if everywhere has been checked then it just must not be present.  Perhaps a replacement frame has been fitted with no number stamped, or the number has been ground/sanded/blasted off?
