New Lucas Rewire, on a lighter note.

Stuck an old Bandit battery on the OIF 1972. So far  New Lucas Loom. New handlebar switches left and right, New flasher unit. New Lucas Ignition Switch.

Ignition on,
I have an oil warning light, I also have a front and back parking light. Fitted a new Lucas flasher unit and I also have indicators working fine, when they flash the front parking pilot light also flashes.
Brake lights OK. I have power to Boyer.

Ignition and lights on.
Rear light OK, pilot OK, no headlights, brake lights both ok. Power to Boyer.

I am working from the BSA A65 ( 1971-1972 ) wiring diagram. G21

I found this too small to concentrate on with my old eyes, fortunately my daughter has blown up the diagram on a good copier. Which makes life easier.

Questions. Should parking lights be on all the time with ignition on ? What does switch listed as 11 actually do please, it is shown as being connected to a blue wire which goes to switch 15.

Electrics obviously not me strongest point. Thanks.

From a cursory look at the wiring diagram, switch 11 turns the headlights on and off. The main and dipped beams are then controlled via the LH handle switch. Effectively, the power for the headlights comes through switch 11 from the pilot light circuit. This means the pilot light will be on whenever the headlight is on.

Now it makes sense, very grateful. Are the parking lights supposed to be on all the time the ignition is on ?

I haven't looked closely enough at the wiring diagram but I would have thought the lights are only on in ignition switch positions 2 (PILOT) and 4 (Ignition and Lights) but, presumably, not 3 (IGNITION).

My lights are on the right position on the ignition and I have wired up switch 11 which turns the lights on and off  . I also have dip and main now. In fact every light works, the brake lights works, warning lights fine, ignition wires have power. MY PROBLEM  The pilot and head light is flashing in tune with the flasher unit  . It still does this with the indicators OFF. The back light is fine.
I can see that the white wire is the common live, so why is the flasher unit activating the front lights. I took the white off the flasher unit and the lights are all fine. I don't use indicators, but would sooner have it right for the next owner. It does also concern me that the flasher unit could do the same to the ignition or could it. Hope to fire up this restoration this weekend

The W wire should carry 12V to the flasher unit and the LGN wire from the flasher unit should then go to the indicator switch. If the indicator switch is off, the 12V at the switch should not be connected to anything and therefore the flasher relay should not be activated.

To start with, I would disconnect the GW and GR wires from the switch from the wiring loom and then check whether the problem with the flashing front light goes away. If it does, it probably means there is a wiring fault in the indicator circuits. If the problem doesn't go away, it probably means the fault is with the switch assembly or wiring.

Sorted... There are two different codes for the green-brown wire, one is known as LGN Light Green Brown. I joined this to Green & Brown. Hence the flashing lights in my man cave. It is now as it should be for the next owner. Thanks for all replies.
