Oil Feed Banjo

One of the oil feed banjos on my B35-3 has, at some point, been replaced with what looks like an SU carburettor banjo. It's much bigger than it should be and isn't made to seal with a tapered banjo bolt.

The pipe size is around 5/16" (8mm) with a 1/2" hole through the banjo. If anyone knows where I could find a replacement like the one in the picture with those dimensions, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to have a look at item 193954962446 on ebay. BB Engineering Supplies.
If you have a look at 'Sellers other items' you will see they have a variety of sizes, rather expensive though.
If you have access to a lathe and soldering, its not too difficult to make one yourself.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Steve,

I've had a look through their listings and also contacted BB Engineering Supplies directly, but unfortunately they don't have anything suitable.

I'll keep an eye on eBay in case something turns up. Failing that, as you suggested, I may have to get one machined up.

Thanks,

Mark Cook

If you get stuck, they are not too hard to make Phill.
Below is an example of one we make. Not the same, but gives an idea.
Searching for a picture reminded me of how much more work is required on our website.

Mark, off topic but you've reminded me, I audit companies and one of my recurring pieces of advice is to use your own website and try to find and buy something. Same with the phone.  Sometimes they are horrified at what they find.

Thanks Rob, I do searches when I remember.  We have made so much that has never found it's way to the stock list, let alone been fully uploaded to the website.  We really need some new blood to keep this going.

Have you looked at Vintage Supplies item 368 Banjo Union?
It has a 1/4 BSP hole, which is just over 1/2" for a 5/16" copper pipe.
However, it's £1.00 more than your motorcycle cost when new.

I looked everywhere for the tapered type banjo for the pressure gauge fittings. I ended up making them in the end. The banjo is actually 3 parts, the main body pipe stub and a hollow dowel silver soldered together.

Tidy job there, @Old Thumper 🤔. Got me thinking and I do have access to a lathe.

Thanks, Steve. Unfortunately, the ones from Vintage Supplies are similar to what I already have. They have the undercut and are designed to seal with a sealing washer on either side.

I could perhaps add a chamfer to one, but then it'd be much the same as what I'm already trying to replace.

Annoyingly, it's something we could easily manufacture at work, but getting any govie work done is near-on impossible at the moment.

Thanks for reaching out, Mark. I may well be in touch again about a few bits I'm struggling with to get this bike back on the road.
