Bike seems to be suffering from fuel starvation.
Starts ok but opening the throttle, it stops.Ticks over ok ignition retarded but advancing the ignition,it tries to speed up but runs rough.
Stripped the carb for cleaning and I can't remember if there was a fibre washer under the float needle valve.Assembling without a washer, the float only moves a small amount.
Should the float move all the way to the top of the float bowl? The amount of float movement can be altered by washers under the float needle valve, but I don't know how high the fuel level should be.
Anyone got any tips?

I'm pretty sure there is no fibre washer between the float needle banjo fitting and the top of float bowl.
Is the needle old white nylon or viton tip (best)

In years of running monoblocs I've never had a float level problem on a standard set up where the car is basically horizontal.  I suspect the problem is elsewhere.  Is the idle circuit fully clear?  It's not easy to tell and the modern fuels seem to create some very hard residue that is especially tricky to shift.

Only a washer if the carb body is fully machined. For level remove the primary jet cover and attatch a piece of clear tube to use as a manometer. The fuel should be level with the small pip on the outside of the float chamber.

If the carb is machined like the photo then it needs a fibre washer.

If the carb is not machined there no fibre washer should be fitted, if one is fitted the fuel level will be too high and in some cases the float touches the tickler which in turn prevents the float needle from shutting off the petrol, which then leaks out of the tickler.
