Anyone looking for Bar end mirrors for your Bantam 350 or Goldstar, Hitchcock's are now selling them.

Not tried them myself yet but may well get some.

Round or rectangular that is the question?

Hi,

I have always gone for rectangular.  They give a better field of view than the round ones.
Don't forget that mirrors do not cover every thing so still have a 'life saver look' as well.

Round ones. Square ones belong on Hondas and Vauxhall Viva's.. ;)

Hi,

I remember on my first BSA back in about 1970. A red B40 fitted with a Stadium bar end mirror on the right. Not exactly rectangular but slightly narrowing to the inner end.  The mirror was shaped to give a good wide view of the road with my elbow just visible. This mirror gave a good view up to the point that a 'life saver look' over the right shoulder took over to check the blindspot.
I have tried a round one and the view is very limited as they are usually quite small.  Perhaps one about 5" dia. may work but.....
The danger is that if an ineffectual mirror is fitted to you bike, you will tend to use it and to some extent rely on it for vital information. One day you may miss something and who knows what the result may be.
It is also worth checking the image for size.  Some seem to be actual size or even a bit enlarged with the result that the range of view is limited. The original one seem to have a reducing mirror so that more of a rear view is given.
No matter what mirror you use the 'life saver look' is essential.

Indeed it is.
A mirror tells you when something IS behind you, rather than when it isn't.

Unfortunately the new BSA's have solid handlebars so require the specific bar end fittings for them to screwed into the end of the bar.

Thought it was classic bikes you were talking about . But surely the newer reincarnations have got mirrors anyway .

Hi,

The ones for the new Gold Star clamp on rather than have an expanding bit in the end of the bar.

Dave.
