Paint and sharpie pen

I've got a weird situation. I made new brackets for my C15 mudguards, and to ensure the welder got them in all in the right places, I marked the mudguard and brackets with a sharpie pen.

Now the mudguards are back from the welder, and I am etch priming them. And the sharpie pen markings keep appearing through the paint - even though I rubbed them out with scuff pads etc whilst prepping the job.

I've taken it back to bare metal three times with a flap wheel - and the words 'front', 'rear' etc reappear from nowhere once the primer is on.

I guess I need to scrape the paint off again and then hit the area with some chemical that removes the ghost of Sharpie pen?  Does anyone know what that chemical might be?  Acetone?  (I don't want to put something on that is even worse for painting over...)

did you use any pre-paint wipe before priming?   Or even rum over with standard thinners or something similar?  I'm assuming this should have removed this.  Have you applied an acrylic primer, or similar, and does it still show through this?   I've never experienced this problem previously, but have pained over lots of things.

I have seen similar but the marks disappear when a top coat - in my case brushing enamel - is applied. Alternatively I find carb cleaner will remove most things, including carefully applied paint!

Isopropyl alcohol is good for Sharpie ink.  I've had colour leach like this and in the end I put on a blocking colour, a dark grey. It was amazing how it leached through.

If you mark something with a permanent marker, you can erase it with a white-board marker.  Used to use this on laminated maps.   Carb cleaner also worked..
